For KYC ValidatorsVery important things to know

07/03/2022

@nicolas & Mods

We have recently improved the algorithm to not need to show the back side to validators most of the times, for increased privacy. So going forward you should only be seeing the back side very rarely. That does not mean people did not submit a back side. They may have submitted but it is it shown.

Quick clarification: if all validators agree that a specific validation needs to be rejected then it counts towards their successful validations and increases their accuracy percentage. The goal of the validators is to provide accurate assessments, not to accept everythin.

In terms of “unclear photo”: if you can tell the person in both photos is the same, please select yes, don’t just select unclear photo because some photo may just be a little blurry. If on the other hand you tried looking carefully and you really can’t tell the two photos show the same person then you can select “unclear photo” and reject.

In general, think of how you would act if someone showed you their ID in person. Would you say yes this ID belongs to them or not? The choice is the same here.

Also in some cases the photo from the ID may be from when the person was younger but in most cases you can tell it is still the same person.

Each Pioneer who is successfully passing KYC and will migrate to Mainnet is paying 1 Pi to get KYCed. This amount will be pooled and split among validators based on their contributions (number of correct validations). However we do not have accurate statistical data yet to be able to determine the average number of validations needed per KYC request for many reasons. Eg. we plan to further reduce the amount by applying even more AI. The fewer validations needed per KYC request, the higher the amount payed out per validation. Also we need to finalize some KYC requests that are currently tentatively rejected, as many of them need to be accepted actually (see read more in the Home Screen). So overall, we have to wait for while before we start distributing Pi out to validators.

If validators get documents from other countries they can review those, but only if they feel comfortable and knowledgable to do so. You are supposed to get only own country documents. If not please write down watermark and report so we can investigat.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the app is a usual misconception of a remedy. I will talk with the mods to propagate this info. The best course of action is force closing the app instead of uninstalling. In modern phones many people don’t know how to force close an app, also known as “kill” the app. I often find myself needing to explain how to do this. Especially on the newer iPhones where the user has to pull from a specific place of the screen and be careful to not pull too much but only just enough…

There are several reasons for KYC apps getting stuck and we are working on all of them. In the meantime, we plan to allow people who are stuck to review and edit and resubmit their applications themselves. This will likely get them unstuck because the newer algorithm and UI will guide them along the way and help them self-fix any issues. The new algorithm is running in real time on the servers giving real time feedback to applicants allowing incorrect issues themselves. That’s why newer applicants are able to get verified faster and we want to allow older applicants to review their submissions.

Nigerian Validators! Premium NIN slips are acceptable documents for KYC, while paper NIN slips are not acceptable. Please keep this in mind. Accepting paper NIN slips may affect your Validator Score and eventually lead to your dismissal as a Validator.

How frequently you see the “no more work needed” screen primarily depends on how many people are applying from your country in real time. Thanks to algorithmic improvements and the good job of the validators we are constantly current in processing KYC applications lately. This means that there is no backlog for the percent of people for which the algorithm can fully read their IDs and safely approve their applications considering validator input. There is of course still a number of KYC applications that are getting stuck every day. For stuck KYC applications, we are improving the algorithm and we plan to allow people stuck to self improve their KYC applications by giving them the ability to edit and resubmit those “difficult”parts. The majority of the applications are getting approved within 15 mins from the moment the person applied right now :) Keep up the great work, validators. At this rate we will be able to hold the first migration of some Pioneers to the Enclosed Mainnet soon.

 Instead of uninstalling and reinstalling, most problems are solved by hard closing the app and reopening it. Switching out of the app is not closing it, you need to follow the custom process of your phone’s operating system to hard close (iOS or Android and often decide specific). And if the problem is with the servers then reinstalling will not help, it may even lock you out of your account if you happen to log out at the moment the login service is experiencing issues or is slow.
